We are thrilled to report that - for the 8th consecutive year - our band has earned the Outstanding Performance Award (OPA) for 2022-23. The OPA is the most prestigious award that SC Band Directors' Association (SCBDA) gives each year to South Carolina band programs. Our band performed at a very high level in all SCBDA events including Marching Band Championships, All-State and Region Band, Concert Performance Assessment, and Solo and Ensemble and earned enough points to be recognized as one of the top bands in the state. There were only 3 other 1A bands in the state to earn this honor. Congratulations to Mrs. Hodge, band students, support personnel, and parents.
Band members spend hours upon hours learning to read music, practicing their chosen instruments, and learning to play in sync with others. Marching Band members also learn and memorize marching routines. They must not panic if something happens unexpectedly during a performance. Band competitions require a team approach, and we have a great team! Parents play a huge role in set preparation, transporting equipment, and feeding band members. You've heard the saying "it takes a village," and competitions do!
